iPhone 13 Pro Max Charging Issue…

Here is a bit of a backstory first, I got this iPhone 13PM (Pro Max) as an upgrade from my iPhone 11 back in August or September from my carrier. I didn’t have any problems with it at first, it worked like a dream and I absolutely LOVED the camera array since I was a Film Student and would record small videos or short films with my iPhone (both with the 11 and this 13PM).

Now, with that being said, since I record videos an short films with this beauty, I tend to need to transfer files using USB to my PC (I haven’t been able to afford a MacBook of any kind yet, so I’m one of those Windows/Linux PC users).

I haven’t ever connected my 13PM to my Linux server/ecosystem since I have know idea what I’d have to download in order to make that work.

With my Windows PC, however, I have connected it and transferred tons of files with little to no issue.

but ever since the last two updates, of the iOS 16.x.x variety, I’ve been having issues with the charge port not working properly. At first I thought that bumping it slightly was the main issue, since I tend to hold my phones in awkward positions with one hand while they are charging, but soon after finding that issue I found another, my 13PM would disconnect from my Windows PC while it was connected with a Lightning to USB-A cable, which is Apple Branded.

to make sure it wasn’t the cable’s fault, I replicated the issue with a brand new Apple Branded Lightning to USB-A cable that I purchased from my Cell Carriers Store (not an online store mind you).

now the problem has gotten so bad that when I try to charge my phone (still using the new cable), if I don’t have my 13PM in just the right position, it doesn’t charge at all.

My question is; “Is this repair a decently cheap repair?” Or “Should I look into just trying to get an early upgrade to the 14PM?”

Hello GoddessAkai,

Based on the description you gave to the physical damage concern you have with your iPhone 13 Pro Max, there isn't a specific repair cost provided by Apple. The best recommendation would be to take it in for an inspection either at an Apple Store or an Apple Authorized Store Provider and let the technician provide a repair quote for you once they've determined what the repair might be.

Something else to consider is if you haven't already done so, check the port for any dirt or debris. If the contacts between the charging port and the cable aren't touching properly (perhaps dirt is partially blocking some) that would also cause similar issues.

Best regards.

It's still under warranty (1 year), so you can see if the issue you have can be seen and whether it's covered by warranty. A warranty service is most likely a replacement and not a repair, so it would be a good idea to see what you can do to back up your iPhone - preferably to a computer. Obviously that can be difficult if it doesn't connect consistently via a Lightning cable.
