MacBook Pro Login password

When I purchased my New MacBook Pro with Apple M1 chip the cellophane wrapper was opened. Salesperson denied it was a returned product. It will not recognize my Login Password, and the screen showed it would send a reset to my email, but the email it showed portions of is not my or my husbands email. I tried answering the security questions, but it does not recognize my birthdate. No one else has had access to the computer since I purchased it. How can I change my login password?

Hi deborah97,

To clarify, were you able to set up and use the computer initially? Such as create an account, set a password, etc?

Or did you open it and on initial use, there was an account already there that is mostly obscured? If the latter, that would be Activation Lock and an extremely high likelihood this Mac was previously owned. In that event, we'd recommend returning to the sales location for a refund.
