Play/Pause button not functioning on Media Apps using MacBook Air

Could you please spare a minute to remove this answer? Unfortunately (due to a bug in community?) - it masks the actually helpful one (having 20 votes) - addressing the root cause and including the solution.

Agree. I use it all the time when doing lectures to pause / rewind / play and take notes on my pages. I don't use any of the other 3p apps like what's it or Spotify, but I do use Apple Music and WTF, I can't silence it??

completely false, apple music is not open an youtube music is but the f8 button opens apple music et completely ignores all other music apps that are open. Stop trying to be a smartass wheb you're wrong

I'm still having this problem. Just like you, the other buttons (skip, previous, volume up/down) are working.

I am having this issue with Udemy, as I use only one screen I need to alternate, while previously I only press start/stop, while I was coding, to stop the video, is this the same issue?

I dont use WhatsApp, so it cant be the issue for me. Dang i miss the days of quick "next song" key strokes without having to switch over to Spotify. Any other ideas??
