If someone steals your phone you are not going to get it back. And there are many ways to prevent Find My from working. Turning off is just one of them, so disabling the SIDE button would just add an inconvenience for the 99+% users whose iPhones will never be stolen, without adding any meaningful benefit.

Actually, turning it off does NOT disable Find My with the latest versions of iOS, whereas the other methods such as a Faraday bag would effectively disable Find My.

Hello helpful1134!

Power off cannot be disabled.

If you’re worried that you won’t be able to use Find My when the device is turned off, don’t worry. You can now use Find My to locate an iPhone that’s missing.

I hope this is helpful. Good Luck!

What I mean to say was:

Or, if it has a physical SIM, remove the SIM.

Or wrap it in aluminum foil

Or put it in a metal lunch box or tool box

Or, if the phone has Control Center on Lock Screen enabled, put the phone in Airplane mode

Or ship it to Shenzhen, where there are huge factories that recycle stolen phones of all types.

I totally agree with you. But perhaps one could confront them with the police?

I've seen a Cops episode where a backpack was recovered by the police using an AirTag, while the owner of the backpack sat in his car waiting to identify it.

And a video on YouTube where a news station’s iPad (I think it was) was stolen at an airport by an airport employee, and they recovered it using Find My. This time, their “police man” was a giant, live streaming shoulder camera.
