How can I see the year in the timestamp on ios messages?

The year suddenly dropped off the timestamp in messages after about April last year. I want to be able to see the year in every message as it helps me keep track of crucial medical issues.

Is there a way to fix this in settings?

If not, Apple (if you’re listening) please fix this so that the year displays at least in the first text of any day. It’s important.

You are quite correct in you observation that the Year is not displayed along with Time and Date within the Messages window. However, with exception of messages received within the last week, the full date (including year) is visible for each message within the Message list at the left of the screen.

Apple invite submission of comments and feature requests via its Product Feedback portal. If you’d like to see the full date appearing within the main message window, this would be the best channel to communicate your request. For iPad and iPadOS:
