My wife is giving me her iPad Air (4th Gen 12/21) - What happens to the AppleCare+ on the iPad?

My wife has decided I should have her iPad Air since I will use it more than her. We will share the iPad. If I decide to reset the iPad and set it up as my iPad on my Apple ID, what happens to the AppleCare+ paid for in advance (not monthly) on the iPad? I do not want to corrupt her data on iCloud, so I am thinking it is safest to reset the iPad rather than continuing to use her Apple ID. What do you recommend? We do not want to lose the AppleCare+ we paid for.
