controlling photo albums shared with family

I recently shared my subscriptions with my family members. This action seemingly also shared some of my photo albums even though they are not listed in my "Family" "shared albums" or even in any of my listed shared albums. How do I control this?

Hi Hallau,

Thank you for participating in the Apple Support Communities. We understand you have some photo albums being shared even with your family even though you haven't shared these albums. Photos should only be shared if you're sharing a photo album or if you are sharing an Apple ID. This article explains how to delete a shared album if needed: How to use Shared Albums in Photos on your iPhone, iPad, and Mac - Apple Support.

"Delete a shared album

  1. Open the shared album.
  2. Tap the People button .
  3. Tap Delete Shared Album.

If you're looking at your list of shared albums, you can also tap Edit, then tap the Delete button to delete a shared album.

When you delete a shared album, it's automatically removed from all of your devices and the devices of your subscribers. If you turned on Public Website, the shared album is removed from the web, too. Deleting a shared album permanently deletes all of its photos. Before continuing, make sure that you save any photos that you want to keep.

Remove a subscriber

  1. Open the shared album.
  2. Tap the People button
  3. Select the subscriber that you want to remove.
  4. Tap Remove Subscriber at the bottom of the screen.

As the creator of a shared album, you control who can access it. You can remove subscribers at any time."

You can also make sure shared albums are turned off if you're not using any. On your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch, go to Settings > [your name] > iCloud > Photos, then turn off Shared Albums.

We hope this helps.

Take care.
