I was attempting to upgrade to Monterey from Mojave on my Mac Mini. Downloaded the Monterey package, and attempted to download it to my internal SSD. Got a message that my HD was not formatted for APFS….I read up on how to boot up in Recovery mode and go to disc utilities to convert my HD to APFS….no where in disc utilities could I find the function for doing this"……….what am I missing?

The command should be in the Edit menu.
The View popup menu (not in the menu bar) is used to show all the physical devices as opposed to the volumes. However, I don't think you need to show all devices in order to convert a drive that is already in GUID partition scheme. If the "Convert to APFS…" command is grayed out with the drive selected, then it is possible it is using the old Apple Partition Map scheme or something else is corrupted. Either may explain why it didn't convert to APFS when you installed Mojave.

Yes. Make sure you have a backup from which you can migrate your data.
Yeah, I read all this before I asked the question….I enter recovery mode, go to disc utilities, go to view, nothing pops up that says convert to APFS……in view or anyplace in disc utilities…..I was just wondering what I might be doing wrong…..thanks
Thanks for the info….installed a SSD about a year ago, and used a third party software program to re-install the contents of my original hd. I had to format the new hd, so I probably formatted the new hd improperly….could I simply erase the current SSD, and re-format it in the proper APFS format? Thanks in advance….
