iPhone Keyboard

Is there a way to get punctuation marks on the main keyboard for messaging and email? Or is there a better keyboard - which contains basic punctuation marks - that can be installed? I just switched to an iPhone 11 Pro from Android, so it's quite possible there are settings involved, which I'm not familiar with. With this current keyboard, to insert a simple comma, apostrophe, etc., it appears to take three 'keystrokes' - once on "123", a second to select the punctuation mark, and a third on "ABC" to return to letters. Is this normal? I have learned that a double tap on the spacebar will at least give a period.

I'm truly hoping there is a solution for this issue, because I just got this phone and this will be a dealbreaker if I can not get a proper keyboard installed.

Thanks for any assistance.

I personally don’t even think of these additional keystrokes as inconvenient any longer (admittedly I’ve used iPhones for many years). They’re automatic.

But given they annoy you, you might consider dictating your emails and messages. Then you say, for example, “period” at the end of a sentence.
