Bob,

When you sync a device to the library on your computer, the computer is the master. In your example, 15 songs (815 minus 800) would get erased from the device.

To see how many songs are in the library on your computer, go to the Songs list in your Music or iTunes library and look at the Status Bar at the bottom. It gives you the song count (as well as total play time and total file size). If you don't see it, use View > Show Status Bar.

Bob,

Glad to hear that the Status Bar came into "view." :-)

To your question about syncing, the answer is yes. If you sync your phone to the library on the MacBook, the songs on the MacBook will be copied to the phone, and other songs on the phone will be erased. Before that happens you will get a chance to confirm that you want to "Erase and Sync." For more details, see in here: Sync your iPhone, iPad, or iPod using your computer - Apple Support

Thanks for the reply. I have been able to determine how many songs are on my iOS devices, but NOT my MacBook Pro. I want to sync the music among all my devices but I am concerned that if there are fewer songs on my MacBook than on my iPad or iPhone, then the device with larger amount songs may lose songs in the process. E.g. If my iPhone has 815 songs but my MacBook has only 800 songs, will I lose 15 songs. I don't know how syncing works (which is the master device and which is the slave device) and I cannot find a definitive answer to that question.

Appreciatively,

Bob

That's my problem. The "view" "show status bar" does not reveal the number of song's on my Mac. I have a 14" MacBook Pro M1 running the latest OS ... but no luck re "status bar". Without knowing the total songs on my Mac I can't tell how it compares to iPhone inventory. Thanks for confirming my fear about potentially losing songs on my iPhone. Safe thing is to not sync until I determine # of songs on my Mac.

Thanks for the follow up.

I was able to change the size of the viewing area and I finally see the "number of items" the "size of the file" and the "totally time".

The number of songs on my MacBook exceeds the number of songs on my iPhone. Since I understand the MacBook is the Master and the iPhone is the Slave, is it correct that if I sync the devices, the number of songs on my iPhone will increase to the same number on my MacBook?

Really appreciate your help.

Bob
