Need some serious unlocking help on device I’m trying add T-Mobile account

T-Mobile is saying I need to update firmware before adding my replacement phone to my account. It was an AT

It sounds like you were an AT&T customer and had an iPhone from AT&T. You have now moved to T-Mobile and T-Mobile is telling you that your iPhone is carrier locked. Contact AT&T and ask about the requirements to get your iPhone unlocked so that it can be used with other carriers such as T-Mobile.
