photos do not appear in iMovie

I am running Ventura 13.3 and iMovie 10.3.5. when I open iMovie I can click in the right spots to see "transitions," "backgrounds," ''titles" and "audio and video." When I click on "My Media" and "Photos Library" I get nothing, a blank screen where all my photos should appear. My photos are all in the photos app. They are apparently jpeg, but they do not have .jpeg in the titles. How can I get my photos to show up in "Photos Library?"

I also get a notice every few minutes that tells me "Do you want to update your projects and events on the hard drive “Macintosh HD - Data”?

I have updated several times, but the notice keeps appearing. What do I do?

iMac, OS X 10.11

Hi, LloydSch,

Make sure that iMovie has been given full access to your photos library. To do that, go to Apple Logo/System Settings/Privacy & Security. Click on Photos in the right sidebar.

When you click on Photos, a new side bar pane will open that looks like this:

Give iMovie full access to the Photos app.

If still no success in getting your photos revealed in iMovie, open your Photos app library and go to Photos/Settings/General. Make sure that your Photos library is set to be your system Photos library. The words "Use as system photos library" should be grayed out. If they are not grayed out, click on the words to gray them out.

Thanks for the instructions. I had to gray out "Use as system photos library” and restart. It worked. Now all I have to do is get the “view” menu item to sort by name.

Tonight I will consume a beer (Not a Bud Light) in your honor.

I have a bunch more questions which I will post in the near future.

I will raise a beer to you as well. 😊

The photos displayed when the Photos side bar item is selected are not yet in the iMovie system, so iMovie cannot sort them. They are just thumbnails that refer to the actual photos that are located in the Photos app library. The photos will enter into the iMovie library system once you drag them into a project timeline or into an Event. Then you can select the clips as a batch and sort them in the library media browser or project media browser, or in an Event, via View/Sort By/Name.

Hi Rich,

I finally had a chance to get back to the computer. Thanks for the instructions. It worked. I can now create an Event, double click on an album to see all the pictures in random order, select all and drag and drop into the Event. Then they are in Name order. I'll be posting more questions as I climb the learning curve. Thanks again, Lloyd
