Apple TV+ buffering South Africa

It is very disappointing spending money on a subscription and buying or renting material it keeps on buffering. All other streaming services works perfectly streaming at 4k just apple TV+ is giving issues even at HD. All the usual done. 200mbps fibre line, hard reset the the apple tv device, rebooted but the issue and buffering is recurring different days and times. Hard wired apple tv to router etc.


Any advice or support will be appreciated.

I doubt Apple even knows we have Apple TV in RSA, this is from My Broadband thread from an Afrihost poster...

I’m in the same boat. Up until a month or so ago I could happily stream AppleTV+ at 4K quality without issues. Now I get constant buffering and the quality doesn’t go past SD. This happens both on my AppleTV as well as my Xbox Series X.


As others have mentioned all my other streaming services are working perfectly at maximum 4K quality, so this problem is 100% limited to AppleTV+. If I had to guess, this feels suspiciously like SA ISP’s have started throttling the traffic to the local Apple Datacentre? I’m with RSAWeb.


Sadly if this problem persists I see no point in continuing to subscribe to the service. 😢

Hi. I have the same issue. Latest AppleTV 4k plus 150Mbs fibre on a 1000Mbps ethernet connection to an LG G2 using HDMI 2.1 cables. The netflix, showmax and disney apps on the apple tv stream perfectly in dolby vision 4k with dolby atmos. Any purchased movie in my iTunes library buffers and only streams in SD. It must be the apple servers feeding SA. Can Apple please respond to this thread and advise! Thanks.

We usually stream after 8pm once kids are in bed. I just tried this Saturday morning at 8:20am and works fine. It could also be traffic through the Apple servers at that time of night. Wonder if it is usage in other jurisdictions at the same time clogging the servers. USA usage during their daylight hours vs our night time usage. Nevertheless it needs to be resolved for paying customers in SA

Exactly the same issue. Shocking that Apple, with such great content, and such great products, fails at something as basic as this.

I've done everything - factory reset, speed test, reboot etc. Netflix et all working beautifully, and I couldn't even get through half an episode of Drops of God. The buffering got worse and worse, and then it kept failing. No choice but to cancel
