How can I make my AirTag sound louder?

If your AirTag is in a holder make sure, if possible, that the white plastic surface is exposed, rather than the metal surface with the Apple logo on it.

If you insert the AirTag into the holder with the white side showing (rather than the shiny Apple logo side), it definitely gets louder.

it makes a big difference! Try it!

Still needs to be louder but a definitely an improvement when the white side is up

Thanks, Steve. I read somewhere on here to place the AirTag with the Apple facing down and that did help increase sound.

My cat - I call her Spirit Cat… cause she just seems to disappear and maybe… comes out when I shake the treats! Turning the AirTag around on her collar -and making white face out… it’s louder. Good idea! She does look around too. “Where is that sound coming from?” If she could talk.

If you have a supported iPhone and are near your AirTag, you can find its precise location.

1. Tap Items at the bottom of the screen, then tap the nearby AirTag.
2. Tap Find.

3. Do any of the following:

• Move closer to the AirTag: Start moving around to locate the AirTag and follow the onscreen instructions. You may see an arrow pointing in the direction of the AirTag, an approximate distance telling you how far away it is, and a note if it’s located on a different floor.
• Play a sound: Tap  to play a sound on the AirTag.

4. When you locate the AirTag, tap

I tried turning the white side out… works much better But it still needs to be older. Especially for senior citizens who are always losing things!

I doubt it is possible to increase the volume with the existing hardware, but maybe I'm wrong. Use Feedback - AirTag - Apple to share your thoughts with Apple.

insert The air tag WHITE SIDE facing out not Apple logo. Helps a bit but a long way to go. But it does help!

It helps but definitely should be much louder !

Another thing to do is to locate the device first. As you get closer to it the sound will be a bit easier to hear.

What a HUGE waste of money. You can barely hear it if it’s in your wallet or purse. Tired of apple rip offs.

Thank you! So much more usable than it was when the white surface was buried in the holder. Now I can way more easily find my keys when I misplace them in the condo. :-)

OK, so this may be a bit of a stupid question, considering the thread topic, but using white side out, versus logo side out would provide a louder, pinging sound or make it yet easier to identify and locate the tag?
