HP LaserJet 1020 drivers for Mac M2 Max

Hi! I have older printer HP LaserJet 1020 and I can't find drivers for Mac M2 Max.

If I install printer with actual drivers - printer doesn't start printing...

Do You have any solution or remedy for this problem?

MacBook Pro 16″, macOS 13.2

This HP driver works perfectly with the LaserJet 1020 using USB cable on a MacBook Pro with M2 Pro with Sonoma 14.0

HP 5.1.1 Printer Software Update

Instructions

  1. Download & Install the driver.
  2. Connect your LaserJet to your Mac with the USB cable (may need an adapter to USB-C).
  3. Go to the System Setting and add your printer manually.
  4. Select "HP LaserJet 1020".
  5. In the Add Printer setup process, in the box "Use: Choose a Driver...", select: "Choose a driver" and "HP LaserJet 1022, 1.6.1" in the proposed list.
  6. Click the button "Add".

That's it. Your printer should appear online and idle.

Enjoy :-)

Hi,

Drivers from HP for the LaserJet 1020 printer appear to be available for Windows and Linux only.

You may possibly want to carry out a test using drivers for the HP LaserJet 1022 instead.

There is an HP 5.1.1 Printer Software Update from Apple. An HP LaserJet 1022 version 1.6.1 driver is listed in the referenced article Printer and scanner drivers for Mac - Apple Support. However, the System Requirements say Not compatible with macOS v12 and newer. If you try it anyway, it would be entirely experimental. It may not open/install/work with macOS 13 Ventura. So, do not expect too much from this.

You may have to reset the printing system between tests.

Reset the printing system on your Mac to solve a problem – Apple Support (UK)

Add a printer to your printer list so you can use it on Mac – Apple Support (UK)

As always, make sure that you have backup copies of all important files before testing anything. Software conflicts cannot be ruled out.
