tone volume and noise cancelling

Hi all,

didn‘t notice this before so I can‘t say if it‘s du to the last update. I just got my airpods pro 2nd gen and played a bit with them today. Testing noise cancelling and transparency and „tone volume“!

so noticed these things:

1) tone volume on 15% or 115% doesn‘t change anything on notification sounds nor sound effects when switching transparency to anc!

2) i let the tv on while listening to music and the shower on.

in Transparency mode, i hear the water from the shower in my earphones but cannot hear the tv. Shouldn‘t i hear tv when transparency is on?

3) in ANC i still can‘t hear the tv, which is good, but i still can hear the water flow in the shower really good. Not as loud as with transparency but i would have thought that the water noise should be blocked, no?

greetings

AirPods Pro (2nd generation)

Hello Strakekine,

Welcome to Apple Support Communities.

We understand that Active Noise Cancelling isn’t working as expected. We are happy to help.

Transparency mode does let some sound in whereas with Noise Cancellation, you shouldn’t hear anything except what you’re listening to with your AirPods. Here’s more information on this: AirPods Pro and AirPods Max Active Noise Cancellation and Transparency mode - Apple Support

"What are Active Noise Cancellation and Transparency mode?

With Active Noise Cancellation, an outward-facing microphone or microphones detect external sounds, which your AirPods Pro (1st or 2nd generation) or AirPods Max then counter with anti-noise, canceling the external sounds before you hear them. An inward-facing microphone listens inside your ear for unwanted internal sounds, which your AirPods Pro or AirPods Max also counter with anti-noise.

Transparency mode lets outside sound in, so you can hear what's going on around you. Active Noise Cancellation and Transparency mode work best when your AirPods Pro fit well.

If you have AirPods Pro (2nd generation) and the latest version of iOS or iPadOS, you can also use Adaptive Transparency to reduce loud sounds around you. While you're wearing your AirPods Pro (2nd generation) and they're connected to your iPhone or iPod touch, go to Settings > [your AirPods], then turn on Adaptive Transparency."

These steps may help. Please try the steps here: If Active Noise Cancellation isn't working as expected on your AirPods Pro - Apple Support

  1. "Make sure that you have the latest software on your connected iPhone, iPad, iPod touch, or Mac.
  2. Put both AirPods Pro in your ears and check that Active Noise Cancellation (ANC) is turned on.
  3. Clean the mesh located on the top of your AirPods Pro. Sometimes Active Noise Cancellation can be affected if debris or earwax builds up in the area shown below.

If this happens, you might experience:

    • A loss of bass sound
    • An increase in background sounds, such as street or airplane noise

4. If Active Noise Cancellation still isn't working as expected on your AirPods Pro (1st generation), refer to AirPods Pro Service Program for Sound Issues."

Take care.
