That's not technically possible, sorry.

See why in this compatibility chart:

See the Apple Recommended post at the top of this page to see if you can update your phone.

Due to Apple releasing iOS 15/16 updates, iOS 17, and a new generation of iPhones, the chart is now a bit old. I assume that the lines for iOS 3.1.3 through 12.5.7 are still correct, but that the new final lines (as of 11/12/2023) should be:

  • 15.8 – 6s, 6s Plus, SE (1st gen.), 7, 7 Plus
  • 16.7.2 – 8, 8 Plus, X
  • 17.1.1 (current version) – SE (2nd, 3rd gen.), XR, XS, XSMax, all models belonging to the 11, 12, 13, 14, & 15 series

Sure!

On the next full moon, take your phone out into a wooded glade, preferably near running water. Draw a circle on the ground that is precisely 1023 inches in diameter. Then, carefully walking around the circle 17 times counter-clockwise then three times clockwise. Your phone will then be upgradeable.

And if you believe that I have a lovely bridge in Brooklyn I can sell you cheap.

Software update iphone 6

If your iPhone 6 is running something earlier than iOS 12.5.7, you should be able to update it to iOS 12.5.7, using these directions:

If your iPhone 6 is running iOS 12.5.7, it is already at the end of the line (barring the possible – if rather unlikely – release of additional iOS 12 security patches). You cannot get it to run iOS 13, 14, 15, 16, 17, or any other newer version of iOS that Apple may release in the future.

To run current or recent versions of iOS, you will need a hardware upgrade. Here are two sources. (These links are for the U.S. sites; the sites for your country might be a little different.)

Bring money. Apple has a trade-in program, but when I asked the trade-in tool about the credit for an iPhone 6, the site put up the message

"Based on what you've told us, your iPhone is ready to recycle. While it doesn't qualify for a gift card, just send it to us and we'll recycle it for free."

Do you have an iPhone 7?

Maybe he is ready to go out and buy a new iPhone, or a Certified Refurbished one. One would think that after 5 pages (in this thread alone), it would be clear that the iPhone 6 and 6 Plus cannot run iOS 13 or higher.

Then, if your phone is compatible with a newer version of iOS, do so:

But an iPhone 6 or 6 Plus will never run iOS 13 or higher, no matter how many times you ask. An iPhone 6s or 6s Plus will never run iOS 16 or higher, no matter how many times you ask. If your phone does not offer any update, it's likely because you've reached the current end of the line for its hardware model.

If you want to run a newer version of iOS than your current iPhone is capable of running, your options are either to do without, or to purchase a replacement for the outdated iPhone.
