Do AirPod Pros have touch compatibility aside from the button?

First time AirPod owner and I got 2nd generation AirPod Pros. One of the selling features for me was being able to tap the pods to control music, as my friend with an older AirPod showed me he was able to do with his.

When I received mine, I was very disappointed to find a designated button on the stem, and from what I can tell, no touch compatibility on the actual pod. Do they not have this function? I find the button too inconvenient, requiring two figures to pinch the button for stability. The button is ineffective as it requires pressure that would push the pod out of my ear if I don't hold it in place.

Please help, I truly hope there's an option to do what I expected of the device, or I will remain disappointed in this purchase. If a tap worked, I would be less disappointed but I also do not see this as an adjustable option.
