Safari History not showing iMac

On iMac,

Looking under History tab use to list my browser history over the last week.

Now nothing is listed.

I must have turned something off or hit a key command but I can't find what to do to start recording the history UNDER the History tab.

History is there if I choose to ( show all History ) but not under the history tab.

Really bugging me and I can't find a solution on the inter webs :)

Thks for any help!

For macOS Monterey:

To check the settings on how long to keep your browsing history:

Safari > Preferences > General

or

Change General preferences in Safari on Mac – Apple Support

To replace the History item in the toolbar if it has disappeared:

choose View > Customise Toolbar to drag the history item to the toolbar.
