How do I protect my credit if my child applies for a card without my knowledge?

The card is only available to those 18 years and older. If your ‘child’ applies for a card using your personal identification they are committing fraud and are subject to criminal charges. It’s no different than any other credit card fraudulently applied for. There is no permission for you to give. The applicant must provide their own information and be subject to standard creditworthiness checks by the credit reporting companies. It would be up to you to press identity theft charges against your ‘child’.


All three credit reporting companies allow user credit reports be frozen so any attempt to apply for credit will be denied.
