Final Cut Pro 10.6.5: Broken Generators and Titles

So, a while ago some (a lot) of my templates in titles and generators broke. I had been using some of them for a long time without any problems prior to that. The text is all jumbled and looks like gibberish and whenever I try to use one of the broken templates, Final Cut starts freezing and crashing, so it's literally unusable. This is what it looks like:

The font in this particular one is Helvetica, it's not missing or corrupt. Changing the font style fixes the text problem but the template is still very slow and makes FCP act all weird, so this is obviously not a fix, the templates are still broken and not functional.

I couldn't find anyone with the same problem but I've read so many possible solutions so before you suggest something, here is everything I've tried (with no effect):

  • Literally deleting all motion graphics and adding them again
  • Uninstalling and reinstalling FCP
  • Making sure I have enough disk space
  • Deleting Chrome and everything Chrome-related because apparently it causes problems on Macs
  • Checking and validating all fonts
  • Deleting all FCP preferences
  • Always using legitimate templates and fonts

FCP and my MAC are not experiencing any other problems or slowdowns if I'm not using the broken templates and titles, so I'm fairly certain that they are the problem. If it were 1-2 templates I would just wave it off and live with not being able to use them but it's a huuge portion of my template arsenal and it's happening with most of the new templates I download too. It seems to happen with templates with text in them, so it might only be connected to that but I'm not sure.

Any help is appreciated, I'm desperate.

Have you tried starting your Mac in Safe Mode?

The templates are mostly from Motionarray and some are from Envato, that's it. No shady templates. Plus, they've been working just fine so something must've caused this.

I don't think there's any broken from the built in ones. But the thing is, there's just random broken ones from the same "package" of templates. They're literally downloaded from the same place, look similar, have the same font and some of them are fine, others are not. It's very strange.

Booting into Safe Mode will do some system maintenance, including removal of certain temporary/cache files. Some/all font cache files get deleted.

From looking at your screenshot, it seemed like the issue might be related to corrupt font cache files, at least in part. While there are some 3rd-party tools that can remove font caches (and Terminal commands), the safest way is to try booting into Safe Mode.

The "magic" all happens during the Safe Mode boot process. You then simply log into your account, and restart the Mac after logging in...

Glad that helped!
