I’m trying to set my wifi up and the computer is sitting next to the router but it keeps saying unable to connect router out of range. How do I remedy this?
What do I need to do if my MAC won’t connect to my wireless router?

Are you sure you are trying to connect to the correct router?
Did you try power cycling the router and the computer?

Since the Mac is sitting right next to the router, connecting the two with an Ethernet cable seems the way to go.
