How to disable change Wallpaper from Lock Screen

when you touch and hold the Lock Screen it lets you customize your wallpaper. BUT the problem is that it’s way too easy to enter this mode by just holding your phone!!

my phone is constantly entering the customize Lock Screen mode when I don’t want it to. We need a way to disable the “touch + hold Lock Screen” to change wallpaper feature. Let us change it in settings. NOT every darn time we accidentally touch the Lock Screen for more than a millisecond. Thank you!

Dear Apple. What part of LOCKED do you not understand? Seriously. For the love of all that is holy, STOP PUTTING INTERACTIVE THINGS ON THE **LOCK** SCREEN. If I wanted to change the wall paper of cancel a timer I’d UNLOCK the phone. Derp.

I saw this on a google post and assumed its the latest option but it must be quite old as it doesn't work with the latest update.

Two days ago a method that did work for me was adding a new wallpaper for the Home Screen - that did the trick and the annoying prompt didn't come back.

However after I accepted the latest iOS 16.7 update this morning the annoying feature is back and the old method doesn't work anymore.

So yeah still looking...

Following this thread is like being in a support group. Apple will never fix it, no matter how many times we use "Product Feedback", but every few weeks someone else complains and we all know at least we're not alone.

I suspect that an "intended feature" that was poorly evaluated and possibly not tested from the user interface standpoint will be way too complicated to ever fix.

Given that Apple does alpha testing, invited beta testing and public beta testing, I think I can safely say it was tested. What that also says is that the people who did the testing didn't hate it as much as you do. Different people do have different preferences.

Well, and why not? Seems like trawling comments on the support community would be a great way to determine which "features" might need some tweaking. But parsing our words is only lucrative if it's used to serve up ads. Alas, a new iOS version with "Finally! Annoying wallpaper lock screen fixed!" is probably not going to sell any iPhones. It would only clean up some bad UX design, but no, we must always go forward.

In the meantime, it's evident that "leaving Feedback" isn't working in this case. But since the only feedback from the Feedback would be a fix, there's no way to tell whether our "suggestions" have even been read.

This “feature” is insanely infuriating. I put my LOCKED phone in my pocket, and when I pull it from my pocket the wallpaper has changed. Nearly every time. Makes me want to smash my phone. I am +1 for a fix, a toggle to disable this”feature”. Anything. It is beyond stupid behavior.

I don’t have an Apple Watch so that is not interfering. I simply want my phone to stay on the wallpaper I’ve chosen. At this point, the only option I see is to delete any and all wallpaper from the phone.

Asking Apple for a change doesn't necessarily mean that Apple will implement that change. Or, if they do, it may take time, sometimes a long time. No one here knows how many other things Apple is working on or what their roadmap for changes looks like. All you can do, other than to submit feedback, is to decide how much emotional energy you're going to expend on this issue.

Apple must have needed this ‘skin’ or feature for something important to them to put something so ridiculous in and totally ignore the feedback on it. I noticed that the other feature that’s changed is the phone doesn’t ‘wake’ immediately with the side button from ‘rest’ but meanwhile if in my bag gets activated easily - all totally counter intuitive to usage. Meanwhile 1000s post about this and hundreds thousands put up and Apple doesn’t seem to take note.

If your phone is getting woken easily traveling in a bag, it's because you have Tap to Wake turned on. It has nothing to do with the side button. I'd recommend you turn Tap to Wake off. We've seen MANY people come here who carry their phone in a bag or pants pocket with Tap to Wake enabled, and with enough movement have gotten themselves locked out of their iPhone after enough taps are interpreted as passcode attempts.

To turn off Tap to Wake, go to Settings > Accessibility > Touch > Tap or Swipe to Wake

True- the reason I have it on is so I can start using it easily when it’s lying flat and for eg. I can only use one hand but infact tapping it doesn’t really work ( previous iPhones it did) and requires much more of a thumb contact not just a tap. But in the bag it’s quite easily dialing someone so overall I did decide to turn it off, thanks

I did prefer previous versions ( going back to iPhone 5 maybe even before) where I could access easily beyond the Home Screen without swiping the home screen away - there should be an option to use the phone without a home screen as it’s just an added layer in the way and now it’s got this ridiculous second skin option which seems not at all useful. What I don’t get is how is it supposed to benefit the user?

I get the Home Screen is a privacy layer but if I’m at home it would be helpful to have the option to turn it off .

If you turn off Tap to Wake, instead of tapping the screen to wake your iPhone, you just press the side power button to wake it, instead. Give it a try and see.

You can only tap to close it if you actually looking onto the screen!

But this annoying „inconvenience“ happens every time when I use the flashlight from the lock screen and while lighting on something if any part of my hand makes contact with the screen it switches my backgrounds around or doing other stuff.

The Lock Screen has a right to exist for obvious reasons, but the way to access this feature is completely contradictory to the design philosophy of a LOCK screen.

IMHO: The possibility to leaving the lock screen by simply laying your hand on the screen is bad practice…
