Google two-step verification notification getting hung up

My iPhone 12 receives notifications from Google prompt during the two-step verification process. And the notifications open. But the process lapses into a continuing spinning wait cursor (Google’s version of Apple’s spinning beach ball). And stays there. I updated to iOS 16.4.1. Updated the Mac (and Safari) from which I was initiating the prompts to Monterey 12.6.5. I removed Google app from the iPhone 12 and reinstalled. If someone can help, thanks. I’d like to keep to Google’s two-step verification process but will probably have to turn it off.

Thanks for taking the time to respond. Respectfully, this site is replete with instances in which Apple users help other Apple users regarding any number of third party apps, especially when the problematic behavior of the third party apps appear to be unique to Apple devices and operating platforms. Still, thanks for giving it some thought and taking the time to reply. Given your level and your point count you're obviously helping a lot of folks. Keep up the good work!
