SD cards being damaged fairly quickly by the SD card port (scratched, chipped, and split) MacBook Pro 2021

Has anyone experienced their SD cards scratched or chipped from sticking the card into the SD port? Ever since I got my laptop, my cards have been getting increasingly more scratch to the point where my cards split, chip or are no longer working. I know SD cards get signs of wear and tear over time but I've purchased brand new SD cards and even with the very first insert into the laptop, it leaves a scratch mark on the card. Apple suggests the SD cards be no thicker than 2.1mm, I checked the width of the Sandisk SD cards and they are 2.1mm. Any suggestions?

I know I can purchase as SD card reader but I was hoping that If I'm spending this much money on a product, that the SD port would work without damaging my cards so quickly.

I haven't on any of our three current iMacs. But that little slot requires you to slip the card in at a precise angle ... straight in, not cocked. Not doing that will certainly damage the relatively flimsy card over time.

Our experience is Macs are simply not good are reading cards. We use portable SSDs for data transport now and leave the cards for use in cameras. Photos are offloaded to a Mac either with the camera's cable or wirelessly if available.
