"About this Mac" window

I bought a new/old power mac g5 running os El Cap 10.11.6. Every time I open "About this MAC" the widow freezes open and will not close, everything else with the computer seems to work ok. Any way to force this window to close without shutting down. Cmd + Opt + ESC will not work because it doesn’t show.

Mac Pro, OS X 10.11

It’s a Mac Pro (Early 2008) Desktop os 10.11.6

I shutdown then did a SMC reset and an NVRAM reset and it seemed to work fine for several days.

Then it restarted unexpectedly (Problem Report Below, Additional Text)? Otherwise the computer is functioning OK.

Once the computer restarted it seems to function properly until I decided to open: Apple Menu > “About this MAC" again. The window opened ok to “Overview.” I then progressed to “Displays,” OK, then clicked on “Storage” and it froze. Don’t know if this is an indicator that the Hard drives have anything to do with the problem? I have installed:

Serial ATA Device: PNY CS900 120GB SSD, with os 10.11.6 system

Serial ATA Device: WDC WD20EZRZ-00Z5HB0, 2 TB

Serial ATA Device: ST4000DM000-1F2168, 4 TB

Thanks for any help with this.

When I first installed os 10.11.6 and tried to login - the el capitan mountain image appeared blurry without any login icons. So, I shut down and reset PRAM. Then I was able to login and use for several days without any problems. Then it suddenly restarted with this message:

then this:

And then the "Problem Report for OS X" appeared (shown above).

I tried safe mode and I got the blurry el capitain image without the login icons? So I logged in the normal way OK.

One more curious thing, once logged in I opened "About this MAC" again and was able to click on every menu button (except "Storage" which I avoided). I was also able to open "system report" and click on every link including "storage" OK. I then closed it and reopened it and clicked on the menu button "Storage" and the "About this MAC" froze, again. I could still use the opened programs (photoshop, dreamweaver, indesign) etc ok, but the entire apple menu was frozen with the spinning-color-ball-of-death?

First, I was thinking there must be a problem with the 4 TB Seagate HD that came with the computer? When I tried to open it the computer froze. Originally this HD seemed to be working ok but after the freeze I pulled it out. Now it’s running on a PNY SSD with os 10.11.6 and 2 TB WD HD. I had installed these HD’s earlier from another single processor mac Pro I have. These drives are new and reliable. Now the computer seems to run smoother and quicker, without the momentary delays that it was having. It has not restarted after several hours of use. So, problem solved, Maybe?

Went to Apple Menu > About this MAC > Storage: and the window still freezes open, as well as the entire Apple Menu. So force shutdown, reboot, and on to Memory and DIMMs.

Apple Menu > About this MAC > Overview:

Apple Menu > About this MAC > Memory:

This did not look good with the first two slots being empty?

Apple Menu > About this MAC > System Report > Memory

——————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————

I pulled the memory cards (A & B) and all 8 slots had DIMMs, so I removed the DIMMs that were reading “empty,” then moved the two - 4 GB DIMMs to DIMM Riser A - 1 & 2, and restarted the Computer. The following were the results.

Apple Menu > About this MAC > Overview:

Apple Menu > About this MAC > Memory:

Apple Menu > About this MAC > System Report > Memory

Note: now there is only 12 GB of memory (before there was 16 GB). The two 4 GB DIMMs are now reading 2 GB? I made sure to read each DIMM to confirm it’s GB size. The two 4 GB DIMM pair are in Riser A - 1 & 2. I’m thinking I should move them back to regain the missing 4 GB’s?

OK, will move them back. One Last Question - The 10.11.6 os system that is running on this computer is on an SSD that was originally installed on a Mac Pro (Mid 2010) single processor. I simply pulled the SSD out and plugged it in this Mac Pro (early 2008) dual processor to quickly test. Is this OK, or should I get a new SSD and do a fresh install on this computer?

Thanks
