When trying to add a gmail address to my MacBook Air I get this message:
Authorization Error
Error 400: invalid_request
You can't sign in to this app because it doesn't comply with Google's OAuth 2.0 policy for keeping apps secure.
You can let the app developer know that this app doesn't comply with one or more Google validation rules.

I couldn't add my gmail account to mail. NOW SOLVED.
Days of trying. Then this...
Go to Preferences and set your default browser to Safari.
Open Safari and make sure you are not logged into your Google account.
Go back to System Preference>Internet Accounts and add your Google Account.
The confirmation will open your default Browser Safari. Log into Your Google Account.
All done.
So easy when you rely on Apple and not Google.

Oh, I agree it's a pain, but Security is an ever changing target & Mail.App being tied to the MacOS version is not going to be updated.:(
I had to dig around in google to find the app password setting as they must have recently moved it. Had it switched/created - and it still didn't work for me.
Changing browser to chrome solved my problem. thank you
This is no solution. Why is it not working with google and Apple using the simple email function?

Spot on fix for this, at least for me. Spent hours dealing with this searching and ultimately called apple support who wouldn't help due to age of my machine. This was a very easy, simple and in hindsight logical fix. Thanks, Bob!
I cannot add mail accounts I am signed in toMac Mail on my MacBook Air. No problem on other linked devices. I set up zoom.us he other day and then was told that this was an invalid request error 400. Contact the developer, it said. That is surely joke. How do I know who the developers of zoom.us is, ho can i possibly contact them from Japan, and what do YOU think would happen as a result? I want my functioning mail back; been through all the steps to set up accounts, now they exist but I can't add to Mail on this one device.
Do not try and mix gmail with OSX Mail!!!!! I have spent the day trying everything I can find on every support forum to try and work out how to add my wife's gmail account to OSX mail. It will work on the iPhone fine but it's impossible to add to the computer. It's been excruciating. I can't understand why this isn't a solvable problem. It's ludicrous.
Had to change my Gmail PW and now I cannot update my PW in the mail app....
Is there an updated fix at the moment? Because all previous solutions are not working for me.
I am using macOS High Sierra 10.13.6

I just switched back my default browser but now know to switch it when I need to add an email account!
unfortunately this doesn't work. Trying to add Google brings a 400 error code (no OAuth 2.0)
