A file on my desktop disappeared and I am not sure which one? How can I see a previous version or get it back?

This morning I logged into my account and noticed I am missing 1 folder that used to be on my desktop, but I am not sure which one it was? I logged into my old Macbook to see if it might've been in there, but it looks like I have some of the same folders on my old Mac that match with my Macbook Pro? How can I locate the missing folder? It is not in my trash and I looked in recents and on my iCloud desktop, but everything looks the same?

Thanks in advance!

MacBook Pro 16″, macOS 13.3

You can retrieve the file from a Time Machine or other backup made prior to the file disappearing.

You can use this Apple article to see whether the file is recoverable from iCloud Drive:

If you don't have backups, then I highly recommend you start backing up your computer and all external media (including the cloud) which contains important & unique data. macOS provides the Time Machine backup software for free with macOS so there is no reason not to have a backup.
