EFI Firmware refuses to update after multiple macOS System Installs

The EFI/Boot ROM version on my MBP Retina Mid 2015 is stuck at the following:

EFI Version: MBP114.88Z.F000.B00.2110271808  (Boot ROM Version: 428.60.3.0.0)

I have serially updated over time from High Sierra, Catalina, Big Sur and Monterey. Alway with a Clean Install from an external installer disk (thumb drive).

Running the following... /usr/libexec/firmwarecheckers/eficheck/eficheck --integrity-check

... always yeilds the same result.

"EFI Version: MBP114.88Z.F000.B00.2110271808  (Boot ROM Version: 428.60.3.0.0)

Is the Internal Drive used on this computer an Apple Original Drive ?

The EFI Boot ROM included in Monterey 12.x will verify if the destination Drive is an Apple Original Drive during the installation process.

If it finds the drive is a After Market drive it may balk or refused to install Monterey

The EFI Boot ROM is required to Flash the Computer and Not the drive itself

Alternative is to reverse this by replacing the After Market Drive with a Apple Original and run the Monterey to the Computer.

This should safely the EFI Boot ROM to fast the computer

Then, reverse the above and run Monterey to the After Market Drive

Thank You! You are correct. The internal drive was not the original Apple drive. Luckily I still had the old drive and was able to reinstall it and upgrade the OS from Catalina to Monterey using an external installer. This updated the EFI/Boot firmware. See below.

EFI Version: MBP114.88Z.F000.B00.2301122010  (Boot ROM Version: 481.0.0.0.0)

Primary allowlist version match found. No changes detected in primary hashes.

Thanks again for your help!
