Airpod Pro and Airtags associated with my AppleID where picked up by another person's iPhone.

I know it sounds crazy.. but I've had AirPod Pros and Airtags for a while (over a year) and are associated with my AppleId account but someone else's iphone started getting alerts about my Airpods and Airtag on their phone. In fact, when I took their phone, used Find My, and clicked Items on their phone and pressed sound.. and it sent a sound to the airtag! WTH?

I took the battery out of the airtags and reset the airpods, so they don't currently appear on their phone, but how is this possible?

That is an intentional mechanims to alert iPhone users that there are “unknown” Airtags nearby without their owner.

The ability to “ping” the Airtag is to help that person find what may be a surreptitious tracker.
