Hi!
I'm running MacOS Ventura 13.3.1 on an M1 MacBook Pro. TextEdit, which is the basic word processing application that comes pre-installed with every Mac, now won't open ANY .txt files from Zoom chats which are automatically saved on my HD. Any workarounds?

To get started, what happens when you try and open a .txt file in TextEdit? For example, do you see any particular alerts or error messages?
Since you started having issues with opening .txt files, have you attempted to restart your Mac? If not, since that can often help with resolving some unexpected issues, give that a try with the steps shown here: Shut down or restart your Mac - Apple Support

* On your Mac, choose Apple menu> Restart.
If you don’t want app windows that are open to reopen when your Mac restarts, deselect “Reopen windows when logging back in.”
If the issue persists after restarting your MacBook, we'd also recommend testing the issue in safe mode. This can help to determine if the issue may be caused by some software that has loaded when you started your MacBook.

If this is only happening with text files that were created by the Zoom app, you'll want to reach out to the app developer: How to contact an app developer - Apple Support They'd be in the best position to assist further with files created by their particular app.

Restarting my Mac didn't solve the problem. I also ran Disk Utility but that didn't make any difference. However when booting into safe mode TextEdit behaved normally, so I'm thinking the issue may have something to do with third party software.
I spoke too soon. Weirdly, TextEdit will open some .txt files but not others. It seems to cope well with files whose icon does not display the letters TXT but not with those that do. I'm enclosing a screen capture.

I am having the exact same issue and it seemed to have started once I updated my MacBook to Ventura 13.3.1.
I have tried the various solutions posted and none have worked. I don't understand which app developer to contact either...
Any other ideas?
I've posted a question on Zoom's user forum, but no answer yet. There seems to be little traffic and I don't even know if it's monitored by Zoom staff.
It's all rather annoying.
