Thank you, but this did not resolve my issue either. It was working fine until it wasn't, just keeps resetting to 30 and starting again. It's not a life-critical component for me, so I can just not use this, but it is frustrating that so many users have this issue and it has not been resolved.

I was having the same problem, restarting the watch did nothing. I tried a different wrist, different fingers, a different person, and nothing worked! Finally, with extensive research, I found tips on how to fix it! I used these tips, and now it works perfectly!
The "Tips"
I followed the above 3 tips and my ECG feature is now working properly, but here are a few more tips if its still not working!
To uninstall the ECG app:
To reinstall ECG:
That's it! Hopefully these tips will help you as well!
Same exact problem. Used to work fine, now can't get below 28 seconds b4 it resets. Tried a reboot, no change
Alas, this did not work either. I have tried: uninstalling, reinstalling, hard reset, different wrist, different person, cleaning, sitting still with my arm on my lap, sitting still with my arm on a table to keep it steady, holding my breath, breathing slowly, strapping it on as tight as I could, strapping it on normally.
ECG just doesn't work out for me. :-(
Mine does exactly the same thing. Did you ever get it fixed? What was the issue?
Thanks... but still didn't work for me. It's so frustrating, nothing anyone has suggested works. This truly seems like a flaw.
I had the same issue. My watch has crown on right side. I was wearing my watch on my left wrist. I tried changing my watch to right wrist using my left finger to press the crown and it worked. Works every time now. Still wear it watch on left wrist just swap it to the right side when I want to use the ECG hope it works for you
I have the same, reseted clock and did new installation. Issue still remains the same. My feeling is some hw issue with the crown.
So sorry to hear this! I was having all of the same problems, it was literally driving me crazy! I had tried all of the other fixes to no avail, but after doing the hard reset, cleaning the digital crown and the backside of the watch and watching my posture (keeping arm flat surface), it is now working perfectly every time! I spoke to someone else who had to take the extra step of uninstalling and reinstalling the ECG app, and afterwards their problem is fixed as well so I hoped I had discovered the answer!
There was a just a watchOS 10.4 update released on March 7, 2024, that is supposed to fix a bunch of issues, have you installed it? Perhaps that will solve the issue!
Did you also unpair and reinstall? Restart the phone also? If so, and nothing is working, perhaps it is time to contact apple support so they can troubleshoot? They are pretty easy to get in touch with these days! Best of luck! I know how frustrating it is when you do everything and nothing works!
Thank you, I tried this without success. I spoke to apple support and need to send it to have hardware checked. Thanks anyhow
M1 Mac mini, macOS 13.3.1; Watch, series 7 GPS/cellular, watchOS 9.4; iPad Pro 2nd Gen, iPadOS 16.4.1; iPhone 12 Pro, iOS 16.4.1; TV 4th Gen, tvOS 16.4.1; HomePods, audioOS 16.4.1 and Airport Express w/ Airplay 2
wish I had thought of that. I sent mine in and they're replacing it,
Tried all the other fixes, which took ages, however still didn’t work. Put watch on other arm and it worked immediately! Thank you. Your fix should be at the top!
Same problem is there ECG app keeps restarting without holding finger on crown.
shown to AASC they have checked and gave it back saying it is working fine.
still having the same issue paired with IOS17.5 latest with iphone 11,15 but it is in vain.
apple should look into this, watch in limited warry.
Tried and worked for 5 second then stopped. ugh
