Ipad screen has a massive grey bar through it??

I turned on my Ipad this morning, and it seemed to be working just fine, except that there was a thick, pixilated grey bar right through my screen. I tried restarting it several times, but nothing changed. I connected it to power and it didn't go away. I haven't tried connecting it to my computer yet, as my computer is broken at the moment (not my fault, I'm just really unlucky) but I'm pretty sure this is a hardware problem, so that wouldn't help anyway. I haven't dropped my ipad, put it in heat or humidity, got water on it, put it in extreme cold or treated my ipad roughly. It stays in a case safely on my desk whenever its not in use. I have only had it for just over two months, so I am very annoyed that it has broken after such a short time. Anyone have any advice?

Today, January 8th, 2013, the same thing happened to my iPad. Used it yesterday just fine but when I turned it on today it had the grayish colored bar with different colored stripes running across the screen. It's really disappointing since my iPad is in perfect condition. I haven't called Apple yet to see if they would fix it or replace it but I have a feeling it will cost more than it's worth. I had bought it in October 2012 so it does seem to be an issue with iPads sold during this time period. Just thought I'd add to the forum in hopes that Apple will see just how many people are having this problem

Add another to the list. Mine was a Christmas Present, you guessed it, Dec 2010. I loaded a bunch of pictures onto it so that I could upload them to Facebook, I put it down to take my son to the bathroom, and when I came back it had the grey bar of death. I tried all the restart fixes, and nothing worked, so I'm going to take to the Apple Store to see what they say. I've had my eye on a Galaxy Note anyway. This is probably just the instigator. So sad that I'm losing all my kids' little "projects" that they saved to the hard drive.

I have two original ipad one of the had the gray bar... And being the crazy guy I am I decided to take off the screen of both of them and switched them ... This concluded my annoying investigation that I searched all over the Internet with no answer that the lcd is the problem ... The one that worked correctly before the switched had a gray bar after switching the screens ... Easy fix and ordering the lcd on eBay since I don't want to buy new ipad for my 8 year old lol ... Hope this answers everyone's question :)

You dont have to be a techie but you do need nimble hands and the right tools...read my previous post. Buy the right screwdriver and replacement clips. Watch at least 3 videos, for whatever reason every video I watched had some unique clue how to do this best. Guitar pick (medium) worked best to pry this sucker apart....thats the hard part.

If u can't be careful or have patience to take off the screen and change the lcd then u shouldn't do it yourself .. I have some experience repairing iPhones so i somewhat know what to do and with help of a video to take off the screen I was able to do so ... It's around 70 dollars for the lcd on eBay and my local ipad repair store charges 120 to repair it with the screen .... If U don't trust yourself repairing this I recommend u have someone else do it :)

Guess what?? Add me to the list!! I got my Ipad 1 as a gift for Christmas 2010. Grey Strip of Death!! Did factory restore to no avail... Wifey asked me if I wanted another Ipad this year... I was like "Are you nuttz... I'm getting the new Galaxy Note 10.1" (2014 version)... This expensive of a gadget should not fail after only 2 years.

Re: iPad Mini Safari scrolling problem

I was dealing with this same issue an my iPad Mini. Here's what I did yesterday and I haven't seen the problem since:

1) Go to Settings >> Safari

2) Turn on Private Browsing

3) Clear Cookies & Data

I cannot guarantee this will always solve the problem, but it has worked for me.

Let me know if that works for anyone else :)

P.S. I'm a developer myself and I would give the software developers a little slack. Programming is more crazy than people think. Most likely they expected the iPad Mini to work exactly like the full-size iPad, but bugs always pop up. It will get fixed :) Chrome is always an alternative if Safari is struggling.
