Ipad screen has a massive grey bar through it??

I turned on my Ipad this morning, and it seemed to be working just fine, except that there was a thick, pixilated grey bar right through my screen. I tried restarting it several times, but nothing changed. I connected it to power and it didn't go away. I haven't tried connecting it to my computer yet, as my computer is broken at the moment (not my fault, I'm just really unlucky) but I'm pretty sure this is a hardware problem, so that wouldn't help anyway. I haven't dropped my ipad, put it in heat or humidity, got water on it, put it in extreme cold or treated my ipad roughly. It stays in a case safely on my desk whenever its not in use. I have only had it for just over two months, so I am very annoyed that it has broken after such a short time. Anyone have any advice?

Today, January 8th, 2013, the same thing happened to my iPad. Used it yesterday just fine but when I turned it on today it had the grayish colored bar with different colored stripes running across the screen. It's really disappointing since my iPad is in perfect condition. I haven't called Apple yet to see if they would fix it or replace it but I have a feeling it will cost more than it's worth. I had bought it in October 2012 so it does seem to be an issue with iPads sold during this time period. Just thought I'd add to the forum in hopes that Apple will see just how many people are having this problem

Ipad2 purchased 4-11-2011. After $800.00 and 33 months of careful usage, I now have 4 faint gray horizontal line on my screen. After reading these posts, looks like Apple has a known problem that they are not willing to own up to.

I have spent thousands of dollars w/Apple. Mac book w/retina, solid state, 2 iPhones....... The old Steve Jobs arrogance is shining brightly!

So I have the faint gray bars - 4 of them, running horizontally across my screen. Took iPad (33 months old - out of warranty) into Apple store. Sarcastic, condescending teenager tells me: it's probably 1. Ur screen protector 2. The ridges on ur case that touch the screen when it's closed. INHO, it's not. When I mentioned all the complains from this discussion, he replied with: x amount of iPads sold, u can't go by a few hundred complaints. Apple has gotten too big to fail. They don't care about their customers. Fat chance I will be buying any apple products in the future.

Doing a back up and restore, several times, did the trick. I was getting ready to go to the Apple Store to exchange my iPad, when I took away the leather cover and, there it was: the iPad turned on. Took it to the store, all tests showed the iPad is in perfect condition (iPad 2 32 GB). Many are saying this is a hardware problem, I beg to disagree. It is a software problem. You need to wipe out your iPad and restore the original software. As long as you can see your iPad on iTunes, there is hope.

Resore the original software, restore the software. I had the same problem and it is a software problem. My is back to live. Also, make sure that, if you have an AT&T or Verizon version, your SIM is replaced by Apple. Restore the software several times with the latest iOS version. Let it rest for a day. As long as you can see the iPad in iTunes, you should be ok.

I had this happen to my ipad 1 which I got in Jun of 2010. It happened in June of 2014. I have restored and reset it multiple times. While the bar [about 1.5 inches wide dead center from long side to long side had gotten lighter and darker, it never goes away. I've had it in the OEM case the whole time and I did not drop it.

I can tell you that it HAS TO BE hardware related.
