Ipad screen has a massive grey bar through it??
Ipad (not wifi)
Ipad (not wifi)
Ipad2 purchased 4-11-2011. After $800.00 and 33 months of careful usage, I now have 4 faint gray horizontal line on my screen. After reading these posts, looks like Apple has a known problem that they are not willing to own up to.
I have spent thousands of dollars w/Apple. Mac book w/retina, solid state, 2 iPhones....... The old Steve Jobs arrogance is shining brightly!
Ok Got a New LCD Screen with new clips, (you will break the clips not all but some)
Replaced the LCD and the ipad is back to normal. wasn't to bad take your time.
But if apple will not fix find a LCD on eBay they are cheap.
good Luck
So I have the faint gray bars - 4 of them, running horizontally across my screen. Took iPad (33 months old - out of warranty) into Apple store. Sarcastic, condescending teenager tells me: it's probably 1. Ur screen protector 2. The ridges on ur case that touch the screen when it's closed. INHO, it's not. When I mentioned all the complains from this discussion, he replied with: x amount of iPads sold, u can't go by a few hundred complaints. Apple has gotten too big to fail. They don't care about their customers. Fat chance I will be buying any apple products in the future.
Doing a back up and restore, several times, did the trick. I was getting ready to go to the Apple Store to exchange my iPad, when I took away the leather cover and, there it was: the iPad turned on. Took it to the store, all tests showed the iPad is in perfect condition (iPad 2 32 GB). Many are saying this is a hardware problem, I beg to disagree. It is a software problem. You need to wipe out your iPad and restore the original software. As long as you can see your iPad on iTunes, there is hope.

Resore the original software, restore the software. I had the same problem and it is a software problem. My is back to live. Also, make sure that, if you have an AT&T or Verizon version, your SIM is replaced by Apple. Restore the software several times with the latest iOS version. Let it rest for a day. As long as you can see the iPad in iTunes, you should be ok.

I had this happen to my ipad 1 which I got in Jun of 2010. It happened in June of 2014. I have restored and reset it multiple times. While the bar [about 1.5 inches wide dead center from long side to long side had gotten lighter and darker, it never goes away. I've had it in the OEM case the whole time and I did not drop it.
I can tell you that it HAS TO BE hardware related.
I am having the same kind of problem except my lines change color, sometimes there is a lot of white with green blue and pink. sometimes vertical sometime horizontal. Sometimes I can see a little of the screen and sometimes nothing. Then the screen will turn black. Sometimes it doesn't do it for hours and other times it starts when I just turn it on. I did a soft reset and it didn't help, then I erased everything and restarted. Called Apple and they wanted me to erase everything again and not load it from my backup. I didn't do it because it's ridiculous. All the backup was on my old iPad 2 and everything worked fine. My new pro is less than a week old. So frustrating! Have an appointment at the Genius bar today. Sure hope they can fix it.
I am now experiencing the GRAY BAR OF DEATH too!!
What was the outcome for you?? Mine is no longer under warranty...haven't gone into Apple yet...so little time!
this happened to me 3 weeks ago and i called apple and they are sending me a new iPad
Same issue! Bought dec 2010
My has done the same, very disappointed with Apples response on this issue. Does anyone know what causes it and how to fix?
