How to lock the MacBook Pro keyboard to wipe clean the keys?

I want to wipe down my MacBook Pro keys every so often to clean them. After I shut down and as I wipe the keys the laptop boots up. How can I lock the keyboard so the boot-up doesn't happen? OR disable the boot-up with the press of any key?

The best answer is to provide feedback to Apple, as there is not a setting to achieve what you want.

Product Feedback - Apple

While it would be ideal to clean the keys with the power off, the workaround to avoid disastrous keyboard strokes is to open TextEdit and clean away. No worry about accidentally changing file names or other unexpected results when cleaning. When done, just close the file and quit TextEdit.

There is no good option. The best option may be to clean the keyboard while at the login screen, although if the Return key is pressed, macOS may think you cannot remember the password and ask to reset it. Best just to reboot, if presented with a password reset screen again, then select "Restart" from the Apple menu once more.

Obviously no one at Apple has ever tried to clean the keyboards on their own recent Apple laptop models, or maybe they don't use their own products....doesn't make sense to me why pressing any key is needed to power on a laptop. Is it really so hard to reach for the power button Apple?
