Duplicate detection is a new feature in Photos 8 on macOS 13 ventura.
Do you have macOS 13 installed on your Mac or can it be upgraded to macOS 13?
MacOS 13 (and iOS 16 on an iPhone or iPadOS 16 on an iPad will show a special album "Duplicates" where groups of similar or duplicate photos are shown, and we can merge them to keep the best version.
