Finder does not function

Finder does not open new windows, the trash does not empty and search-function does not work. What happened?

Or maybe you have an issue with some third party software interfering with the normal operation of macOS. Typical culprits are anti-virus apps, cleaning/optimizer apps, and third party security software.
