Need to be more descriptive on why you think you have a virus.

The most common problem are Notification that have been allowed in Safari. The 3 areas to check here are

• Safari > Settings > Websites > Notifications. Change all of these sites to Deny or Remove All.
• Safari > Settings > Websites > Popup Windows. Do the same here.
• Safari > Settings > Extensions. Here you should disable all.

To see if you have apps launching on startup, check:

•  > System Settings > General > Login Items. Remove apps that run on startup. Some of the background processes are fine to let run and provided by the OS, others may have been added and can be switched off to test.

For a deeper dive, let us know what exactly is going on.

NO ONE can determine that you have malware from OUTSIDE your computer.

The internet has many criminals ready to lie to you to get access to your computer and steal your stuff.

Did you ASK for a Virus check? Why would you pay attention to random messages from strangers? They are lies.

You are correct in thinking it is a scam. There are no viruses that affect macOS so just forget that idea.

Phony "tech support" / "ransomware" popups and web pages - Apple Community describes the message you encountered and what to do about it.

Yes, it's a scam. Apple doesn't sent messages like that.

Sometimes the meaning of those sorts of message may be unclear. If that is the case, use this translation:

"YOUR BANK ACCOUNT BALANCE MAY BE GETTING DANGEROUSLY HIGH! PLEASE CONTACT USE IMMEDIATELY SO THAT PROBLEM CAN BE ELIMINATED."

Have you checked the Safari settings as noted previously?
