Frozen iMac

iMac 24” purchased in Oct 2022. iMac was frozen in screen saver mode. It shut down when I pressed off button on back. On restart it loaded per usual, but cursor is frozen in upper left corner and where I enter password the “|” is flashing. Nothing works but off/on. It does not respond to keyboard or mouse. When I was last using I was online and had several windows and apps open… but no more than normal. Also a warning I’d not proper removed thumb drive, but I had not shut down, so maybe there was a brief electrical outage? iMac perfect until last night. Holding down off/on did give me option of hard drive and system images but no way to select. Totally unresponsive.

iMac 24″, macOS 12.6
