Is there a way to play un-checked songs in a playlist?

I'm pretty sure I know the answer but wanted to bring it up for discussion again.

Sometimes I want to listen to classical music and I have a playlist for that but I sure don't want it to sync to my iPhone so I leave those songs unchecked (who wants classical music to play on their car ride with friends lol).

It's come to my attention that using a smart playlist when I shuffle or play the songs it will only play the checked songs... I find this annoying. If I put the song in the playlist it should shuffle it.

Anyone know of a way other than creating 'exclude' playlists temporarily checking then unchecking these songs after your done playing the playlist?

OK, that makes it more complicated. I think, as you already surmised when you posted :-) , that there is not a way to do what you want only using checkmarks.

The trouble with checkmarks is that there is only one per song, and one of its purposes (skip when playing) may be at odds with another purpose (skip when syncing). You may have to bite the bullet and make a playlist for the car. Perhaps it can be populated by rules in a smart playlist; that will depend on what your library looks like. If not, you can let it be a regular playlist and just populate it manually.
