what if the phone has gone into recovery mode and there's no storage to update?

The phone turned off and became stuck on recovery mode, there has not been enough storage to update and there is no way to get our of recovery mode to make storage.

Rid of "System Data" (Formerly Called "Other"):

Once rid of, try this once more.

Use my User Tip:  Clear Other storage on your iPhone or iPad - Apple Support
