Hotspot SSID hidden

I am using my iPhone 14Max hotspot for my iPad at times. After the resent upgrade to iOS 16.4.1 the iPad does not recognize the iPhone hotspot anymore. I went through all the steps of resetting Wifi parameters, changing SSOD and password, rebooting etc.

I can manually enter phone SSID and password in the Wifi portion of my iPad and connect to the phone, but it does show up labeled as a hidden network after it connects.

Why is that happening?

The iPhone hotspot does not broadcast an SSID unless another device is already connected to it, or the iPhone is on and unlocked and the Settings -> Personal Hotspot screen is displayed.

Other Apple devices that are logged in to the same Apple ID can connect to the hotspot automatically as long as BlueTooth is enabled, even if the iPhone is locked.

Hey there OBF14,

We'd like to lend a hand!

If you're having trouble getting your iPad connected via hotspot on your iPhone, try these steps first:

Try connecting again after each step.
1. Check that Personal Hotspot is turned on in Settings > Personal Hotspot. If you can't find or turn on Personal Hotspot, check that your wireless carrier enabled it and that your wireless plan supports it.
2. Restart the iPhone or iPad that provides Personal Hotspot and the other device that needs to connect to Personal Hotspot.
3. Make sure that you have the latest version of iOS or iPadOS.
4. On the iPhone or iPad that provides Personal Hotspot, go to Settings > General > Transfer or Reset [Device] > Reset, then tap Reset Network Settings.

Should this persist, continue with the additional guidance found under "If you can't connect to Personal Hotspot with Wi-Fi" in the following link to help troubleshoot the issue: If Personal Hotspot is not working on your iPhone or iPad (Wi-Fi + Cellular)

Take care!
