I went through this process several times to change language back to English . It says it is updating primary language but it remains in some other language that was inadvertent

The primary language was changed somehow. I followed instructions to return it to English and it says it was updating language choice but nothing happens it still remains in Leerzeichen - whatever that is. How do I fix this?

iPhone 13 Pro, iOS 16

Sounds like it could be German. Please post a screenshot of what you are seeing.

It finally reverted back to English on the eleventh attempt after a shutdown and a system update. Still don’t know why it changed in the first place. Thanks for responding.
