iPhone 13 Pro Max showing unread messages, when there are none

FINALLY THIS DID IT. I tried all the other ways but asking Siri to read my iMessages did it. It found an unread message back in September (6 months old), read it and removed the badge!!!. Thanks for posting this Jorph!!!

I tried several things - I asked Siri to read my unread messages but that didn't work (Siri just told me there weren't any unread messages).

What happens is, if I have a message from ADT, CVS, or some other text from something or someone not in my contacts and I delete it before I've read the message(s), it will show that notification until I clear it.

So the only way I've found that clears it is to go to my deleted messages, find the messages from whomever or whatever texted me the notification (like ADT, or CVS, or whatever), restore the messages, then open the messages so they are "read" and delete them again.

Pain! But nothing else has worked.

Asking Siri to read all unread messages worked for me to clear the buggy badge count! The painful process of hearing each message can be avoided: While Siri reads each new message, click the Siri speak icon and say "next" for each message.

I tried all solutions and nothing worked. Then I asked Siri to open unread notification ! It was one from over 2 years ago which seems to have popped up during an upgrade. All clear now

This worked for me I just said Hi Siri please read out my unread messages, then it cleared the badges. These messages were from over a year ago. Very strange but thank you for solving!!

After marking "All Messages" unread, my badge still shows 500. The only way that worked for me was to go into "Unknown Sender" folder and select all, and delete all messages. Badge cleared.

Not sure if you ended up finding the answer to this but I started typing letters into the search bar and then loads more messages appeared, I just kept doing it till they all appeared.

The” hey Siri read my unread text messages.” Worked perfectly.!!

I asked Siri to read messages "Hey, Siri! Read messages" and she red those messages which were on on badge count. After she red the messages, badge successfully disappeared.

Asking Siri to read all definitely works!! Even if she finishes and it’s still showing some unread messages just ask her again and she will find them and start reading the new batch!

Yes! I tried so many things! This was the only trick that worked. Thank you! “Hey Siri read me my unread messages”. Finally the app has zero unread. For months it’s said “two messages” unread on the red dot badge. Thank you!

If you have 500+ hidden unread messages and don't want to say "no" to Siri for 500 times:

Delete all the messages you don't need, then restart your iPhone.

You will find more old messages appear.

Just repeat this process until all unread messages are deleted.

Since the maximum number of messages is limited, many older messages become hidden.

To make room for storing more previous messages, we clear out the older hidden messages.
