Cannot get mail from Exchange server

Hi,


I have just bought a new MacBook Air. I migrated everything from my old MacBook Pro. Everything works except for the MS Exchange mailbox. I get Exchange mail on my iMac, and the Mail settings for this account are the same on both the iMac and MBA. I get mail from my Gmail and another account on the Air, but not from Exchange.


Can anybody tell me what I am doing wrong, or what could be wrong? Any help appreciated.

Assuming this is a purely IMAP type of Exchange account, I suggest that you go to System Preferences, Internet Accounts, and remove the Exchange account you have, then reinstall it. If the emails are all on the server, they should all re-download after you add the "new" account. When you re-add back your Exchange account, you will need to re-authenticate, etc.

Can you access the Exchange emails via the server on a web browser interface (not using Apple Mail)? That could be a stop gap while you figure this out.


I would try contacting the organization that runs your mail account on the Exchange server to ask them to troubleshoot.


To try to narrow this down more, in addition to the web interface for accessing your Exchange email, if you have MS-Office or MS-365, you can try using Outlook to se if that works. If it does, then the issue is with the local Apple Mail set up.

Steve, thanks for the response. I tried deleting and reinstalling the account, same result. It is an IMAP account. Every mailbox except the Exchange inbox shows the mail exactly as it is on the iMac next to it. New messages come in and are routed to Spam or where the rules put them. I have checked the Rules, they are the same as the iMac. It is synced correctly with the mailboxes on my iMac, all except the Exchange inbox. James

Steve, thanks. I tried but Outlook would not let me connect to the server. Who knows? Anyway, my Mailworks fine on all my other devices, so this is, as you surmise, an issue with Mail on the MacBook Air. I’ll try Apple support to see if there is some arcane setting that I am not aware of. I can talk through each of the settings with the person on the phone.
