Combining pages in Preview

I want to make sure I understand this. In Preview I want to combine multiple single pages into one multipage document.


I have been doing it with PDFs for years. I choose the PDF that I want to be the first page of the document. I open its sidebar. I drag all the other PDFs into that sidebar in the appropriate order. I select all the PDFs in the sidebar and save. Preview saves the combined document as one multipage document, as I wish.


Today I tried the same with JPEGs. Preview would not save a multipage document of combined JPEGs. Preview saves only the first page.


Does Preview combine only PDFs?

Select all of the .jpg in the order you want them combined and then right-click on the first one. On the contextual Finder menu, choose Quick Actions > Create PDF and it will concatenate the images on PDF pages in a PDF named after the first image, at that image location.


If each .jpg image were a tiff image instead, you could generate a multi-page TIFF using the following command:


/usr/bin/tiffutil -cat foo1.tiff foo2.tiff -out ~/Desktop/combined.tiff
