Message Saying Music Will Damage My Computer

I know this sort of pop-up has appeared in other questions regarding other third-party software, with suggestions to adjust MacOS Gatekeeper to resolve. However, I'm getting this recurring pop-up for the built-in Music app from Apple in my Mac Mini running 12.6.5 (Monterey). It's bizarre that Apple's own app might be triggering a security warning like this. How can I get rid of it? Suggestions re: third-party apps were to move the "offender" to the trash and download a fresh copy, but how can I do this with Apple's own Music App which does not appear to be in the App Store? Any suggestions?

Well, as it turns out, my issue with "Music" turned out to not be the Apple Music app. I didn't realize that both Apple Music and Amazon Music apps use the same name: "Music." So, per the discussion in another thread about this issue with both an HP software and Amazon Music, I deleted the Amazon Music app and reinstalled the current version. Problem appears to have disappeared. I didn't realize I had an ancient version of Amazon Music on this machine because I hardly ever used the AM app. Apparently, when I upgraded to Monterey, MacOs noticed the Amazon Music app and began whining about "Music." Seems like a less than optimal error message.

You'll find the alert you've shared highlighted under "If macOS detects a malicious app".

If you persistently experience this issue we recommend testing this behavior in safe mode: How to use safe mode on your Mac - Apple Support

Safe mode prevents your Mac from loading certain software as it starts up, including login items, system extensions not required by macOS, and fonts not installed by macOS. It also does a basic check of your startup disk, similar to using First Aid in Disk Utility. And it deletes some system caches, including font caches and the kernel cache, which are automatically created again as needed.

Safe mode is particularly useful when you're trying to resolve an issue that doesn't seem to be associated with using any particular app. As always, keeping your software up to date is the first step toward resolving any software issue.

Hey mareich,

If you hover your mouse cursor over Apple’s Music app, you’ll see that it’s only called “Music”. That way, no one can mistake the app for an Apple Music subscription. We do not now know the reason Amazon’s also uses the term “Music” with their app though.
