Watching HDMI input
I have an HDMI cable going from my cable box (HDMI to TV Output) into my MacBook Pro's HDMI port. How do I watch the video?

the HDMI port on your Mac is an output. it will not function as an input from the cable box. you need a device such as one suggested by TheLittles.

Watching TV on a Mac:
A. Use Target Disk Mode:
Your option is to use you Mac's display for input as a monitor. Go here: Use your iMac as a Display with Target Display Mode - Apple Support
Or...
B. Maybe Use this Item: Hauppauge WinTV
With a few tricks, it just might work. As the site reads: "It currently does not run on a Mac, though TV from WinTV Extend can be watched on a Mac."
