Charging MBP 14" M2 via USB-C - Max supported wattage ?

Bonjour,

What's the optimal wattage on a USB-C charger, to use on a MBP 14" 10 core ? The charger that comes with it is 67W.

Could I use say a 85W USB-C charger, does that make any sense ?

Thanks.

The interface is MagSafe-3, which does not fit MagSafe-2.

Macs use USB-C Power Delivery Protocol (or a variant) that negotiates the power levels between power provider and recipient.

A more powerful than required power adapter is of no consequence whatsoever. The power adapter will only provide power at the Voltage and current requested by the receiving device.

Thank you so much for this great answer Sir.

Just to be sure I understand correctly, there is a benefice in using say a 85W USB-C charger (only, I'm not talking about using magsafe port here), over a 67W USB-C charger, right ? The USB-C port on the MBP will take advantage of it even if the default W specs for this laptop says 67W, is that correct ?

Thank you !

A higher-power power adapter will not overpower any device that uses USB-C power delivery protocol or uses a MagSafe connector. No damage will result. Both will work in a comparable way.

The prices of the higher-powered power adapters are also comparable, so If I were buying one, I would buy the highest power available. The only disadvantage is that it would be slightly heavier.
